After a near fatal fall from 100 feet while climbing in Rocky Mountain National Park in 2002, amputation of my right leg became a reality. I have been a climber most of my life, and the thought of losing a leg was terrifying. I met with care providers all around the country and settled on Quorum because Joe was the first person to ask me “What do you want to do?”

I wanted to climb again, and Joe helped me not only with learning to walk again, but to also make my way back to the climbing world. By making me a custom foot prosthetic, I was able to go back to the sport I loved.

Just three years after my accident, I set a world speed record becoming the first amputee to climb Yosemite’s El Capitan in under 24 hours. After that, I turned my attention to competition climbing and in the Extremity Games, the X Games for disabled. I have won Gold medals the past four years in their climbing competitions. This event draws competitors from all around the world, and with Quorum’s help, I have been able to excel at my sport again.

I am also an avid skier and mountain biker, and again, with Joe’s help, I’m able to enjoy these sports at the same levels I had before I got hurt.

Because of Quorum, I am able to be the dad, husband, and athlete I want to be.
